Moving beyond fear

Today, I was feeling unsafe. Not for any reason based on present circumstances. But I could feel a discomfort within me, one that I am quite familiar with now. Past experiences programmed in my body that try to dictate how I see the world. For a long time, those fears ruled me. For a long time, I held myself back from achieving my dreams and goals because I was afraid. Afraid to fail. Afraid to look bad. Afraid to not be good enough.

With time and effort, I learned to recognize my fears. To know their triggers. To understand the moments that give them "purpose". That sees them slinking out from the shadows, ready to take their place in the most comfortable way. Now I know them well. And I know when they overpower my Self, when I am no longer living from my Spirit.

Fear comes from the ego self, not from the spirit self. The spirit self is who we truly are, beyond the layers of emotions and pleasure and pain of this world. And the spirit self is grounded, strong, and beyond fear.

Nowadays, I always try to move forward from that grounded place, letting my Spirit guide the way. Fears still come up, they always will. But now they do not control me. They do not guide me. And now I am FREE! Free to achieve my dreams and to be the person I want to be.

Facing the scary stuff isn't easy. It takes courage, patience, and support. It takes a willingness to know your Self fully. To be your true authentic self in every moment. It means accepting all the parts of you. The fear, even the things that made you afraid.

And yes, that can mean facing things that you really don't want to face. Remember, it's a journey. It doesn't have to all happen at once. Start small. And little by little, peel back the layers.

Moving beyond fear often asks us to move through it. To experience it, accept it, and understand it, so that we can let it go. All so that you can live fully and authentically in complete fulfillment and joy.

If ever you feel anxious, stressed, or depressed, you can bet there is a fear hiding under there. A fear that may not make sense to you right now, but your nervous system knows it well. Your nervous system is used to responding to this fear. It signals your body to be alert, to be ready to fight, take flight, or freeze. Maybe all you wanted to do was say hi to someone new, or ask your boss a question, or say no to something. Fear runs deep, and it's root isn't always obvious.

Spend some time with your Self to uncover those layers when you're ready. You’ll experience a world of magic when you move beyond your fear.

Whether you want to dig deep or not, this simple meditation can help you ground yourself and move through the moment.

Meditation to move beyond fear.

  1. Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. Silence your phone and remove distractions.

  2. Get comfortable in a seated position. Close your eyes.

  3. Turn your attention to your breath. Begin to slow down and deepen your inhales. Slow down your exhales.

  4. Spend a few moments connecting to your breath this way. Notice the air filling every part of you, giving you life.

  5. Release any tension in your body, especially in your shoulders and jaw. Sit tall and with ease.

  6. Feel the ground beneath you, holding you. Feel your breath connecting you to every part of yourself, from your head to your hands and down to your toes.

  7. Repeat the following to yourself, out loud or in your mind, until the words feel true: I am SAFE. In my body, in my mind, in my spirit. There is no threat to me. I am safe in myself.

  8. Now repeat the following in the same way, until you believe it: I see my fears. I know that they are not the truth of the world. My fears do not control me. I see the truth. I see the world just as it is. I accept the world just as it is. I am strong, I am brave. I rise above my fear.

  9. Repeat these magic words as many times as you need to feel grounded and to feel the power of the words resonate through your being.

  10. Turn your attention back to your breath and sit for a moment in stillness.

  11. Take a moment for curious contemplation. How will you move forward? How can you use these words or this meditation the next time you are feeling fearful, anxious, stressed, depressed, etc.?

  12. If you feel called to, set an intention.

  13. Close off your meditation by taking a few more deep breaths. Thank yourself for taking this time for self-care. Take your time as you open your eyes, move around, and continue your day.

This meditation is available to you any time you are feeling anxious, fearful, emotional, or need to ground yourself. The more you practice, the easier it gets to calm your nervous system and move beyond the fear.
